His Rays Have Traveled

I’ve always been drawn to the cold. I’d take snuggled up on a below 30 day than toes in the sand, 75 and sunny. While this is true, I’m not naïve to the hassle of the cold. Windshields in need of scraping, hands in need of friction, and heat bills in need of extra funds. Still, it’s as if there is a beautiful romance of winter.

Hidden deep in the woods, tucked away in the brittleness of its branches.

And so there is.

I’m determined to show you winter may be an image of a romantic, steadfast love story. One without cheesy acting or a corny script—one far beyond Hallmark’s standards.

It’s a love story between you and a God pursing your heart. Grab a blanket, get cozy, and let’s stay here for awhile.

My heart was tugging to discover what is happening between the Earth and the Sun during winter. Of course temperatures drop and darkness arrives sooner, but what is really taking place?

You see, winter can be defined as the Earth’s tilt away from the Sun. Creating a barrier in the relationship to its provider: the Sun.

Oh, but wait.

Because of this, the Sun’s rays must travel further down to reach the Earth’s surface.

Did you see it? Think on this…

How often in the shame, hurt, and pain in life do we choose to lean away from God? In the cold, dry, and brittle we look away from our Source. Then again, maybe it has nothing to do with shame. Perhaps you never looked towards Him because you believe He has nothing for you. As if you love your life; you’re comfortable and having fun. And yet you know the moment you turn, everything will change.

“Because of this, the Sun’s rays must travel further down to reach the Earth’s surface.”

And that He does.

And that they do.

If this were a Hallmark move, this would be the awaited, long over due, kiss. The moment you fall in love with your Creator. The moment you turn your face and look at His light.

Then you leave the cold, dark places. You begin to see because of the Light. No longer are you frantically searching for shelter but you are warm and satisfied in the Light.

Isaiah 60:19, The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.

Don’t leave yet. His power is far greater than the Sun; for He created it. For the sun is only a symbolism of who He is. The sun wasn’t built to last, neither the Earth. However, our relationship with Him can last eternally.

The rays of His love have traveled to where you are. Out stretched is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Take hold, for something new is coming…

Friend, the sequence of the seasons is by no accident. Winter tells us spring is coming—life is coming. You see, the cold and brittle is a reminder we don’t have to stay dead. The Light nourishes us, grows us, and gives us a chance to live freely.

The love story is not over. It’ll play throughout your days the second you look at His rays. The Light will expose your need for His care, love, and protection. His love has traveled, do not fear, just look…
